Slutwalk Brisbane 2012 was held on Saturday May 19 2012. About 120 people listened to speeches in King George Square and marched along Adelaide, Edward, Charlotte and George Sts to Queens Park.
Slutwalk is so named because in 2011 a police officer in Toronto, Canada said at a public appearance women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized. Women (and those of other genders and none) in cities around the world organised rallies to make the point that rape happens because rapists choose to rape, not because of the clothes women choose to wear.
